Jean Monnet centre of excellence

In 2014, the CEJE obtained the label « Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence », awarded by the European Commission. It recognises the value of the research and teaching activities in European law at the University of Geneva.

Since its foundation in 1963, the CEJE has played an important role as regards teaching and research in EU law issues and its impact on Swiss law. The Centre also organises conferences and holds a European Documentation Centre. Thus, it is an important and useful centre to analyse the evolution of European integration.

Only 10 centres around the world had received the label Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in 2014. For its researchers, this is a synonym of excellence. Moreover, it allows the centre to develop new activities and to strengthen the ones already existing in the areas of teaching and research.

The Centre is directed by Professor Christine Kaddous and a steering committee composed by professors from the University of Geneva and the Graduate Institute in International and Development Studies: Alexandre Flueckiger, Karine Lempen, Nicolas Levrat, Xavier Oberson, Thomas Schultz and Julia Xoudis (Professors at the University of Geneva), Vincent Chetail and Ugo Panizza (Professors at the Graduate Institute).

The aim is to create an academic platform of European Union law in Geneva allowing professors, researchers and students to publish on and discuss about European Union issues with an academic and a practical interest.
